Life on the Farm

Spring is when the farm really starts coming back to life.

Crops are growing quickly, fields are being looked after and we begin planting and drilling for the season ahead.

It's also one of the most important times of year for Rymans Pumpkins, as thousands of pumpkin seeds are planted ready for October.

Meanwhile, out in the Christmas tree plantation, young trees need planting and the existing trees continue another year of their long journey towards becoming someone's Christmas tree.

By summer, much of our attention turns to keeping everything growing and preparing for one of the busiest times in the farming calendar.

Our arable crops are approaching harvest, the pumpkins are rapidly growing and the Christmas trees continue to be cared for.

Then the combines start rolling. Harvest means long days and late nights as we bring in crops such as wheat and get the grain safely into the store.

And almost as soon as one crop comes off, we're already preparing the land and thinking about the next one.

Autumn is one of the busiest times of the year at Rymans.

The pumpkin fields open to visitors and thousands of pumpkins that have been growing for months are finally ready to be picked.

But behind the scenes, the farming continues. Fields are cultivated and the next crops are drilled and established, beginning another farming year before the previous one feels like it's even finished.

At the same time, preparations for Christmas are well underway.

As pumpkin season finishes, our attention quickly turns to Christmas.

Christmas trees that have spent years growing on the farm are prepared for the festive season, ready for families to come and choose their tree.

Once Christmas is over, the work doesn't stop. We begin looking after the plantations for another year and planning ahead for the next growing season.

And then the whole cycle starts again.
